Any thoughts about the new translation that came out last year? Is it worth a re-read?

Ben The prose is a lot more "colloquial, compellingly modern and... much closer to the Russian." So basically, it sounds like it's a little easier to read.

Some examples of translation differences between Garnett's classic translation and Ready's new translation:

Garnett: "Fearing the old woman would be frightened by their being alone…"
Ready: "Fearing that the old woman would take fright at finding herself alone with him…"

Garnett: "But why, my good sir, all of a minute."
Ready: "Why all the hurry, sir?"

Alex Not sure which you mean. Pevear & Volokhonsky's is good; so is McDuff's.
