Goodreads asked Nicole Wilson:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Nicole Wilson "Shattered" actually came out of a creative writing class I had my sophomore year of college. We were reading Stephen King's book, On Writing, and there was a prompt in there: (paraphrased) imagine a scene where a man and a woman, Dick and Jane, are separated and the man is at fault. Now switch the roles so the woman is at fault.

The first draft of "Shattered" was birthed from that. It went through many classes and writers groups to get where it is now (and it is, by far, not the same story). For a long time, I stuck with the names Dick and Jane! Then finally someone told me I needed better names, hence, Steve and Kat.
