Goodreads asked Michael J Adams:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Michael J Adams I have 3 pieces of wisdom to share:

1) Nothing can be achieved without putting your butt in the seat and putting the (figurative) pen to paper. You'll have to sacrifice something to get there. For me, it was giving up a LOT of video game time.
2) The first novel is always the hardest. Mine took me 2½ years (mainly because I broke rule 3). A Tooth Fairy's Promise came out in 11 weeks.
3) DO NOT EDIT UNTIL YOU'RE DONE WITH THE 1ST DRAFT. Especially for your first novel. It will suck. It's supposed to. But by the time you get to your last chapter, your work will already have improved. There's no point in editing while you're still perfecting your craft.
