My advice would be to write about what you know. Pay close attention to all the things that go on around you, your experiences, other's experiences. The simplest incidents can offer a world of topics and emotions. For example: In my book there is a paragraph that describes a setting where two characters demonstrate their love. That particular incident really happened to an old friend who mentioned it when she told me about the death of her daughter. I never forgot it.
