I don't know if you've read the previous books, so I'll try to summarize this as understandable as possible for a person that hasn't read them. Ok, so the book begins when the Baudelaires fall into the waterfall of the Mortmain Mountains and they're being dragged by the current. They find a submarine and their new adventure begins. There, they meet some people whose main task is to find an object called Sugar Bowl, which apparently is a very powerful item, and, to help them, the children must overcome a series of obstacles that no child in real life should stumble upon, and have to face—once again—villains that have been chasing them and creating the multiple nightmares they've been through in the past.
