I like that it's fast paced and the MC is an underdog who wants to do the right thing. However, I'm getting tired of how much the MC's appearance bothers her. So what if she's plain? Or she thinks she is plain. I don't get it. For the queen of a doomed kingdom, she spends an awful lot of time worried about her appearance and whether some dude likes her.

Rebecca I know I did a lot of that type of comparison and self doubt when I was 18, for me she is a more realistic character in light of this. Perhaps it is also there to remind the reader that Kelsey is still human (even though she commands power and is smart as a whip). Since I've been there, it didn't bother me at all.
