Steve Dicay Sorry, but only one police officer were murdered. Hettinger managed to escape. He was then fired from the police. In police academies, future cops were taught how NOT to act like him.
Dennis Banahan Yes, the book and the movie were based on the true-life assassinations of two LAPD police officers, Karl Hettinger and Ian Campbell. The movie, starring James Woods, John Savage and Ted Danson, was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. It was an excellent movie, but still not as good as the book.
