At the end of some correspondence the writer's initials are written below. If the letter is dictated and then typed out by someone else that persons initials are also written down (in lowercase letters). In this case HP:ym would stand for Harry Parlin, and then Yann Martel. Meaning that the warden had spoken his letters and someone else typed them.
