Sheree | Keeping Up With The Penguins
It's a very thinly veiled roman a clef - Kerouac basically just changed a few names to protect the guilty, but almost all of it is drawn from his real-life experience. As such, it's an accurate depiction of his life during that period, BUT such a recounting is inherently subjective. It's an insight to one person's experience in the lost years between WWII and the emergence of the hippie counter-culture, but it's not a comprehensive account of history, if that makes sense. ;)
