Anne It has a similar feel and the authors have similar writing styles, but the plots are not the same. The Jewel is a little darker but if you like and want a book similar to The Selection, this is a safe choice.
Lizzie It is just as interesting as The Selection. As Savvy said, it has a completely different plots. This book reminds me of The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood.
Emily Completely different plot but similar writing style and overall mood/theme
Monica There are similarities, but The Jewel a lot less fairytale-like and a bit darker.
Irene They're a bit similar and one of the reasons why they are similar in my opinion is because they are both amazing!!!
Ella Grace I think the style is very similar but the plots are completely different. if you loved The Selection though you will really like The Jewel!
Mendes Fan In some ways, this book is similar. Those things that are similar:
Living with Royalty
Growing up as poor
Romance
Writing style
The cover
The publisher
Other than these, things that are NOT the same as The Selection:
The forbidden love
No love triangle
No competition
The social classes
The whole plot of the book, basically. This one is about servitude, and the main character is often mistreated. And the love here is forbidden. And the main character is in love with only one guy. Whereas, in The Selection, America is in a love triangle. She was not brought to the palace to be a surrogate, but in a competition to become a princess. She was not mistreated in by the royalty, like violet was in The Jewel.
Overall, this book is not like the selection. But if you want something like that book, go for the jewel. :)
Erin 06 No, it is completely different! The plot , the writing style, the pace, the atmosphere, everything is different!
Celeste Petrova In a way, yeah cuz it's about non-royals living with royals, but the storyline is completely different
Ellie Close, but not quite. The plot is different, as is the pace of the book and the overall style. However, if you are looking for a more...mysterious version of The Selection, this might be good for you.
