This is always so difficult to answer because I read such a wide variety of genres and books for both adults and children. I get more into character than plot (though of course the plot has to be engaging), so if a story includes deeply realized characters, I’ll enjoy it.
But some of my favorite books are: Louise Erdrich The Plague of Doves Paula McLain The Paris Wife Erin Morgenstern The Night Circus Sara Zarr The Lucy Variations Mark Haddon The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time Clare Vanderpool Moon Over Manifest Neil Gaiman Coraline
Here’s a list of some of my all-time favorite books: 1. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle 2. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith 3. 4. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee 4. Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank 5. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak 6. Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr 7. Daughter of Venice by Donna Jo Napoli 8. Bell Canto by Ann Patchett 9. The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova 10. The Grass is Singing by Doris Lessing
