Gloria Lindström In antiquity they were usually referred to as lovers, especially Plato, Aeschines, Aeschylus. Other authors of the time would argue that both were only devoted comrades. Homer doesn't make it really clear, except that the relationship was very deep, inasmuch both are referred in the Odyssey as sticking together in Hades after their deaths, so strong their bond on Earth was.
Rick I believe that Achilles father adopted Patrocles, so among other aspects, they were like brothers.
