I read the book and I've been struggling meaning of this: Mitchell and Billy both went to our school, although it would not be accurate to say that I knew them, on account of how I rather doubted either could pick me out of a lineup. ?

Ken A police lineup, where they ask a victim to recognize the perpetrator in a case where they were victimized but have never met the person before. I don't remember who says this, but they meant Mitchell and Billy couldn't tell the narrator apart from some random stranger.
