Kristen asked:

In a nutshell, what is 'HOL' mainly about? Is it essentially just about a haunted house?

Jakob The house is not haunted (or maybe it is but who knows). It's not about ghosts or anything conventionally scary (It's not your typical horror - some argue that it's even a satire).

It's difficult to talk about the plot of House of Leaves because I feel like the plot is not what the novel is about at all.

The house, of course, is the stage for the interesting parts of the novel but it's ultimately not about the house. It's about the humans who enter the house, about their relationships. It's about going insane, about loneliness, about getting lost in something. About the burring lines of fact and fiction. It's about how scary emptiness can be.

And maybe it's about a lot more, but you tell me what you think it's about when you're finished it.
