Goodreads asked John Andrew Myers:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

John Andrew Myers The idea for Mere Mortals grew over the course of fourteen years. I first wrote it as a screenplay when I was 18 and just graduated high school, then I wrote a manuscript a few years later, which was terrible. I sat on it for a number of years, always making notes and changing the story in my head, before finally sitting down to write the final version at age 29. Now, at release, I'm 32.

I was inspired by IP's such as Spawn, Mortal Kombat, LOTR, and Harry Potter, as well as my years spent going to church and skipping to the back to read Revelations. Now THERE'S an epic story.
