Goodreads asked Adrian Summer:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Adrian Summer I had previously written two comedic screenplays and was embarking on a third when I realised the idea of a hapless man struggling to make sense of his life and loves in the new Millennium seemed much better suited to a novel. Also I was very interested in the Romantic poets at the time (Keats, Wordsworth, Byron and Coleridge) and particularly The Rime of the Ancient Mariner so thought I could tie the two things together in a contemporary setting.
