Goodreads asked John W. Otte:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

John W. Otte Not very well, truth be told. Sometimes, I try to power through the block, basically putting down words on the page to just get through the scene or chapter or whatever is causing me so much trouble in hopes that I'll be able to break through to a part I want to write. I can always go back and fix it in editing.

But sometimes, writer's block just stops me dead in my tracks and I have to take a break from writing to let the scene sit. Eventually, something may shake loose and I'll be able to get going again. Usually, though, I wind up coming up with ideas for other projects, which isn't quite so helpful.
