Goodreads asked Dennis Vieira:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Dennis Vieira If you should grow up in a blue collar, working middle class family, where siblings or even parents tell you that your choice to pursue a writing career and publish a book is: “frivolous and a waste of time and money” and that you should just “take any job you can find”, and basically settle for less in life. Well SCREW EM! -Ignore their fearful and fatalistic “play it safe” mentality, and their cynical, stilted, and limited viewpoint concerning what constitutes “real work” .If you feel and have an ability and talent to write, and have received encouragement from others, -then go for it and pursue it! For if you kowtow to others and do what they want you to do, rather than do what you really want to do, eventually it may spirituality numb you and psychologically eat you up!
