I have the first two books waiting on my to-be-read list, but prefer to wait until a series is complete before I begin. It's starting to look like book 3 will never see the light of day. Should I go ahead and read the first two anyway? Or will I just be pissed that there's no proper end to it?

My suggestion is to read them now. This will give you time to soak them in and get into some discussion groups before the third book comes out next year. It also gives you time to reread them just before the third is released (if you're into that).
