I tend to write slowly - that is, when I'm writing, I go along quickly, but when I get stuck on an idea or scene, I often stop entirely, sometimes for quite some time. I have more recently found that if I just start brainstorming (on paper works best for me), stream-of-consciousness style, not rejecting anything until I run out, I come up with my solution. Also, talking with close friends, writers or not, about my current problem helps, for often they provide a new perspective on my problem. If their idea sparks a recognition in me, I can take it and rework it into the solution the scene or section needs.
