I thought it was interesting that Tayari Jones included herself as a very minor character in the book. Any thoughts on why she did that?

Donna I read somewhere that Tayari Jones was a child in Atlanta in those years and personally knew two of the victims. The characters in the book who were murdered were fictional, or at least had different names. I thought it was an interesting device to add a sense of the authors presence to this story.
Kathryn in FL I think this was a nod to the fact it was probably based on her life or someone she knew? To bad, she didn't answer here.
