Peter Cavalier I'd become a sportswriter for one of the New York City dailies during the 1950s, the golden age of baseball. New York had three active major league teams (Yankees, Dodgers, Giants) to write about. And the writers traveled with the team by train (before widespread commercial air travel). Some of my journalist heroes: Jimmy Breslin, Pete Hamill, Red Smith, Roger Angell, Roger Kahn - were all at the peak of their writing careers during that era.
