Don't take yourself too seriously, but try to earn as much as you can about the craft and mechanics of writing. An book can have the most amazing plot ever, but if it's riddled with typos and run-on sentences and misspellings, it can take away from that plot and cause people to stop reading and/or leave bad reviews. And of course, don't ever give up in the face of rejection or bad reviews. They will happen, probably more than once. Just keep at it, because it's one of the toughest and most rewarding things a person can ever do.
