Valerie asked:

I am stumped. I was loving this book until I caught the author in a big mistake. Didn't Marie Laure put the little wooden house in the ocean? How did it end up with Werner(whom she gave the key to, not the house.)

Rere The key was for the old kennel Marie-Laure visited, which is where she left the house. It's semi-explained/inferred that Werner went back to the kennel, unlocked it using the key, removed the stone from the house and then left the stone in the kennel, which floods with seawater at high tide. He then stored the key inside the wooden house instead of the stone.
