Erica asked:

So I'm an adept even before I read the book. I just started reading this edition, and I was bothered by what I perceived as an inconsistency in the first few pages. Dos he say that Columbus had a crew of 39 when departing Spain to America? Then, on the next page, does he say Columbus left 39 of his crew in the island and came back with two of the ships? That didn't make sense to me.

Porter Broyles Columbus had 3 ships... his capital ship had a crew of 39. He had 2 other ships. One of the ships crashed and he had to leave the crew behind.
