Goodreads asked John Castle:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

John Castle The best thing about being a writer, as a business, is also the worst thing about it -- absolute freedom.

You set your own hours -- that's a plus. UNLESS you start slackin', and then that point goes from pro to con.

There's no cap on what you can earn. On the other hand, there's no safety net, either.

You can write whatever you want -- on the other hand, you can't necessarily SELL what you write.

You do what you love -- on the other hand, you have to accept that you may never do better than tread water, financially, in pursuit of that.
