Kate Depends. I'll try to sum it up for you without any spoilers.

Ethan Wate has dreams of a girl he has never met, one who smells of rosemary. He wakes up with the song "Sixteen Moons" on his playlist - but as soon as it appears, it is gone.

Lena Duchannes moves to the small town of Gatlin, niece of the town recluse. Shortly, the windows of the English room are mysteriously shattered when several girls begin talking rudely about her uncle. Ethan is drawn to her, and is becomes apparent that Lena is a Caster: Someone with a certain supernatural ability. On her sixteenth moon, (birthday) she will be claimed either light or dark, good or evil. Being light means she will never be able to be with Ethan, being dark means she won't care about him. To add to everything, Lena's mother happens to be one of the most powerful and evil dark casters of all time - ad she will do whatever it takes to make Lena go dark.
