Marianna Green asked:
Is Ludovic Lavenham meant to be as stupid as he comes across as? It's weird, too, he's meant to be this macho type but he comes across as sort of effete - 'Ludovic lifted one slender finger' etc and I wonder if Heyer meant him to be disguised as a woman a lot more originally, and later changed her mind and the plot turned out differently?
Dorothy I think the point is that he's not the real hero of the story, nor is Eustacie the real heroine. Heyer always has some characters for comic relief, and they're it. Yes, he does come across as not as bright as he could be!
