I just read this book, but 7 years after the question was asked I have to say I agree. Absolutely ridiculous--it doesn't fit. On the other hand this is a pot boiler and it's expected the reader will be bending over backward to suspend disbelief

I found it totally believable, it even crossed my mind when the two ladies were introduced. Maybe it's because of Psycho, idk. :D
