The level on AR Book Finder is 4.0 and it's worth 4 points. Scholastic rates it as ideal for grades 3-5, with skills like "Cause & Effect, Story Elements, Drawing Conclusions" prevalent. The characters themselves are 7th graders and I think the pacing/story development would be engaging enough for a 5th grader, especially if he or she likes solving mysteries.
