Goodreads asked Joey Garcia:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Joey Garcia I've learned to question my thoughts. It's taken me many drafts—in writing and in life—to arrive at the realization that good writing is the result of a clear thinking mind. My writer's block was the result of a mind muddled by half-truths, buried dreams and the projected fears of my parents and others who tried to warn me away from a writer's life.

Obviously it hasn't worked! For nearly 20 years I have written a relationship advice column for the Sacramento News & Review newspaper. I am also a published poet, essayist and author.

If you are struggling with writer's block, I recommend the book, "Unstuck: A Supportive and Practical Guide to Working Through Writer's Block" by Jane Anne Staw, Ph.D. Ms. Staw is a brilliant, insightful and kind guide out of the darkness and into literary freedom. So, write on! Someone will be healed, or inspired, or haunted by your poems, stories, essays and books. Maybe it will be me...
