Goodreads asked Katherine Riegel:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Katherine Riegel Don't be ashamed. Not of your work, and not of trying. And by trying, I mean trying new things in your writing, trying to get published, trying to get jobs, trying to get noticed, trying to get folks to read or buy your work. The world likes to "put people in their place," except, of course, for those lucky enough to get lauded. Stop thinking, "I'm no Jack Kennedy/Elizabeth Bishop/Tolkien/Cheryl Strayed." (Nice variety of role models, huh?) Don't apologize. Be brave.
