I believe the visit is the true event - Jane Austen and her family going to visit her brother just before he is married to meet his future bride. But pretty much everything else is fiction. Nothing is really known about what happened at the visit, or which people she would have met etc. A lot of the scene seem to have been taken from some of Jane Austen's writings, as if giving a possible explanation to where her ideas came from.
