what was your inspiration to write The Last Star Burning?

Caitlin Sangster Somehow I missed this question! My inspiration came from two places: one, I read a book about Encephalitis Lethargica (the real version of the disease in the book) and was properly horrified. Two, I heard a report on NPR about weaponizing the 'flu.

Boom. Last Star Burning. Weaponized, extra-scary flu.
