How is current politics different from what was described in the book? Has the internet and the various Freedom of Information Acts changed something?

Tproctor Not much. This book is depressingly relevant in the modern age - possibly more so. While Robert Moses skillfully manipulated the media, it was just one facet of his hold on power. Many of techniques that Moses used to manipulate the media still hold in the modern era, and I can imagine that only one - maintaining connections with newspaper owners - has changed much at all.

The authority that was created to wrest power from Robert Moses (the MTA) has proven very skillful at delaying FoIA requests, often taking over two years to release information. For all practical purposes, FoIA doesn't apply to many government agencies.
