Goodreads asked Shel Craig:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Shel Craig It depends whether fiction or non-fiction. With non-fiction, I like that there is a set path. You know the outcome, so it's a matter of selecting the tone and words that will best convey your ideas.

In fiction, everything is up for grabs, which can sometimes makes it a bit scary. I find it best not to direct too much and to see where it ends up. It can be pretty exciting to see your characters come to life, and your story move forward in ways you hadn't imagined.
