I like memoirs better, at least right now. I like to know how others are coping with life's difficulties and also what keeps a person going forward. Gives hope as well as ideas or sometimes what to avoid or change.Gail is a gifted writer so her journey is a feast of beautifully expressed passages.

no never , but it certainly goes to the top of memoir lists of the genre. A single major incident in a life against which an entire book revolves.

When I was trying to decide what my reading preferences are, I initially thought, sure, I like memoir better than fiction. New Life, No Instructions is such a great memoir, it would validate that preference. But I have to be honest, great fiction and great memoir have the same qualities for me: good story, beautiful language, human insights. So the bottom line is this, the only reason I might prefer memoir is the Peeping Tom factor. I'm curious about a real person's real life.
