I have two projects on the go. My front-burner project is in the home stretch—the first draft, at least! It’s a crime novel that involves eco-terrorism and oil pipelines and human trafficking, and crossed wires between the FBI, Homeland Security and our hero, a female investigator. Her sidekick is Ivan, the undercover agent in Almost Criminal. This project has sent me to the library and on the road for research. I’ve spoken to an environmental scientist and a couple of RCMP officers, and chatted online with young men who work the oil patch.
The back-burner project is a historical novel/coming-of-age story set in the remote north woods during the Great Depression. It’s a first-person story told from the point of view of a twelve-year-old as his family unravels. It’s currently novella length, and I have plans to take it to new places once I can get back to it.
