Recently I read a letter in the LRB from a Norwegian reader ( http://www.lrb.co.uk/v36/n10/ben-lerner/each-cornflake ) stating that the English translation of "Boyhood Island" was sloppy. I'd like to get a second opinion on this. Thanks!

Maya Jurt "Sloppy": that is not exactly what Ben Lerner wrote. He wrote: "The writing, precisely where it aspires to the literary, can be sloppy" and explains way.
Ben Lerner by the way is is an American poet, novelist, and critic worth reading as well.
In fact, his critical piece about "My Struggle" explains very well why the books are amazing and why the style - describing the thoughts of a 7 to 13 year old renders the atmosphere of the time.
