Goodreads asked D.W. Boorn:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

D.W. Boorn I saw a column in an SCBWI article that was titled something like "What librarians are always looking for..." That started the wheels turning. I started looking all over the internet for a really great, positive response parents could offer their children when they start questioning Santa and I just couldn't find one. At least one that suited ME. That was when I realized there was a gap in the market and room for my unique voice. As a fine artist I could never quite find my "voice", my unique expression, because the paintings were ultimately about me. I struggled to complete paintings and ultimately put down my brushes. As an author, by books are about kids, about shaping the future, about helping parents, about love and humor and touching people. It's my hope they create connections between people and show them a new and positive way to think about issues we all struggle with.
