Goodreads asked S.M.M. Lindström:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

S.M.M. Lindström Figure out what you enjoy reading, then make more of that. I'm not telling you to copy someone else (though I think fanfiction - which is expanding one someone else's work, not copying - is a great way to both make more stuff you enjoy to read and practice your writing), just to find out what you like to read and think of why. Then, think about what you haven't seen in those stories you've read, that you would like to see, and add that.

Also, figure out if you're a 'planner' or a 'in the moment' writer, or somewhere in-between. Both are equally good strategies, so there's no 'better' option; just find out which works best for you.
