To beat writer's block, I do a timed stream-of-consciousness writing. I set a timer for 10 minutes, start typing, and don't stop typing until the timer buzzes. The only rule is "don't stop typing." The writing doesn't have to be good. It doesn't have to make sense. It just has to be there. It sounds simple, but it works every time! When I'm done, I've loosened up my stuck brain and usually have a good nugget to use in the story I'm working on, or the germ of a future story.
