Goodreads asked Patricia Burroughs:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Patricia Burroughs I kind of hate the term 'aspiring writer,' unless it refers to someone who wants to write someday, but hasn't started doing it yet.

If you are writing--short stories, novels, articles, anything! If you are writing, you are a writer. My advice to you is to write more, keep writing better. But be a writer. Claim it. Say it. "I am a writer." Forget 'aspiring.' What an insipid word. If you are a writer, write. Dreamers aspire. Writers write.
