Love the Daniel Silva series with Gabriel (can't come up with last name of character).
But, loved Pilgrim, so you may enjoy Silva.

I felt the same. And I honestly never found anything quite like this. Greg Iles is a great mystery/thriller novelist. Natchez Burning is his latest.

Try watching the Green berets with john wayne, more USA propaganda rubbish or reading the Da Vinci Code , an equally awfully written book. Or watching Fox news everynight

Maybe try out some older classics > THE KEY TO REBECCA is an all time favourite of mine. And THE EYE OF THE NEEDLE is brilliant - if you haven't read that... (KEN FOLLETT)

I'm late to this thread, but I agree with Dawn, Red Sparrow is an excellent choice, as are the books by Jon Stock, Red Cell by Mark Henshaw, a Foreign Country by Charles Cumming, and try the Harry Tate series by Adrian Magson, a British crime-writer with a distinctive twist.

Have you tried Vince Flynn?
Alexandra Brown
Robert Ludlum is a good suggestion. Or Restless by William Boyd.
Susan
I don't really know. I've been reading Scott Mariani's Ben Hope series and they're good fun.
