Goodreads asked Kathryn Bashaar:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Kathryn Bashaar My best advice is to find a good writing group. YOU know what you mean when you write, but you need readers to tell you whether you have SAID what you mean. From my experience, 4-5 is a good number for a writing group. Too many, and you will seldom get a chance to have your work critiqued. Too few, and you are not getting enough different perspectives on your work. Avoid groups that are mutual admiration societies. You WANT criticism; it will make you better. But avoid snarky groups, too. What you want is people who will say what they liked and what they thought needed to improve in your piece, people who will be tough but encouraging.
