(view spoiler)[Aw, thank you! Katie, Jun, and Tomo grew on their own as I wrote about them. Katie was from an earlier story I'd had in mind, but she seemed the perfect person to push Tomo's buttons so I pulled her into Paper Gods and she transformed a little to fit the story.
Tomo's been with me for a long time. I always saw him in my mind drawing in a field, but it was a long time before I saw one of his sketches move across the page! He told me more about himself, little by little. Even as I wrote scenes he'd surprise me with what he said or how he acted.
Jun was written as a counter hero to Tomo. I wanted someone who had the potential to be the hero of the story, but who'd made drastically different choices in his life. His look is inspired by Haruma Miura.
There are small traits in them inspired by real life. For example, my host sister in Japan studied fashion at university, and Yuki wants to study fashion. So, small shards of truth have found their way in. (hide spoiler)]
