Yeah, I thought about having book three as Derek's story alone, but I didn't because of all the loose ends with Kyle and Lee. Their story wasn't quite finished so I tried to add in pieces of Derek for the people who enjoyed him. He's a lovely character with a massive role in the series and I was really torn when writing the third because Derek's story-line is so big, and gets even bigger in book 4. The problem with writing a standalone for Derek would be that the readers would have read the outcome etc. in the other broken books. That's probably the biggest reason why I haven't written a Derek book.
