Simon Okill asked Jeff Strand:

One Bigfoot author to anther - what made you decide t write about Bigfoot?

Jeff Strand Hi, Simon! The inspiration for DWELLER wasn't to write a Bigfoot novel--it was to write a novel about a friendship between a boy and a monster that lasts their entire lives, from childhood to old age.

In the very early brainstorming stages I'd envisioned some kind of reptilian creature that lived in a well. But I quickly decided that a well would be too limiting of a location for something that took place over sixty years, even if the creature came out of it once in a while. And I decided that, in terms of suspension of disbelief, readers would be much more receptive to a Human/Sasquatch friendship than a Human/Lizard-Thing friendship.
