Emma asked:

Even though this is an adult book, could a young teenager still enjoy/understand it and is it appropriate?

Carolyn It depends on the emotional maturity of the teenager. While there's nothing "explicit" in the modern sense, there are scenes when Werner is at the Nazi school and during the war that could be very disturbing -- bullying, violence, and the general inhumanity of war. It might be a good book to read at the same time as a parent, and then discuss.
