I give it maybe a 4. It's no "The Fault in Our Stars" or anything.

I got teary eyed at the end, but I found myself rooting for the character for more than just winning her cancer battle The author is pretty clear early on what is going to happen, but it does not become stuck in melodrama. There was an outward focus as well- you get to see the quirky family dynamics and there were parts I actually laughed at.

The sadness you feel is not really sadness--it is not sudden, it is not a waste, it is not even hated by the characters or the author. The feeling you get is something that adds to your soul, doesnt take away from it.
